Why this works

89%of BNPL users who asked for a late fee waiver got the fee reduced or waived entirely (LendingTree, September 2026 BNPL Tracker).Source
$12.1BEstimated amount consumers paid in overdraft and NSF fees in 2024 (Financial Health Network).Source

The LendingTree number is for BNPL, but the same approach is worth trying with any company: one short, specific request, sent once the account is current, and asked again if the first answer is no. Some fees don't exist anymore. Capital One and Citi dropped overdraft fees, and 27 of the 30 banks that earned the most from these fees in 2021 have eliminated NSF fees. The tool flags those cases so you ask the right question.

Klarna

How to get a Klarna late fee waived

Klarna's Pay in 4 terms allow a late fee of up to $7 per missed payment, charged if it stays unpaid 10 days past due. Total late fees on an order can't exceed 25% of the purchase, and Klarna waives fees caused by its own error.

Tip: Pay the missed installment first if you can, then ask. That way the request is only about the fee.

Where to ask: Klarna app → Payments → pick the order → Manage payments. Chat is in the app, 24/7 (AI assistant first; ask for an agent); (888) 518-2771 (Listed as 24/7 on Klarna's US help page); klarna.com/us/customer-service; Written notices (Pay in 4): Klarna Inc., 800 N. High St., Suite 04121, Columbus, OH 43215.

What to do when a Klarna payment fails or needs to move

If a payment fails, Klarna retries it. If the retry also fails, the amount rolls into your next payment and a late fee may apply. Before that happens, you can extend a Pay in 4 due date once per purchase, by up to 7 days, at no cost (app → Payments → order → Manage payments → Extend due date).

Tip: Try the in-app Extend due date button first. It's free once per purchase and doesn't need an agent.
